The Madsen Hockey Academy aims at fostering and developing hockey talent in and around Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Madsen Hockey Academy (MHA ) was birthed in 1993 by Adele Madsen and was one of the 1st Hockey academy's in South Africa.
In 1995 the academy moved to St. Mary’s Diocesan School in Kloof with training for Junior Primary, Senior Primary and High School players on Friday afternoons.
Since 2011 there has been specialised Goalkeeping Training at St Marys, Kloof.
In 2014 MHA was launched at Durban Girls College for Grade 1-7 and limited to players from Durban Girls College and Maris Stella only.
MHA are involved with running the coaching at Kearsney Mini Hockey Club and Westville Gryphons Mini Hockey for ages from 6 – 13yrs. The MHA academy also runs the Youth Hockey programme for Kearsney Club and Westville Gryphons.
MHA runs Holiday clinics in each school holiday and also offers private coaching to players.
MHA provides coaches to Westville Girls High and St Marys DSG. MHA provides coaching programmes and coaches to St Marys JP.
We currently have over 30 coaches that are employed by the academy. Current South African Men’s goalkeeper, Siya Nohluntshungu heads up our Goalkeeper programme.
We provide leadership opportunities for coaches and opportunities to grow in their hockey knowledge by running SA Hockey Association accredited Level 0 and Level 1 coaching courses as well as keeping the coaches updated on the latest hockey trends.
